Lending Closet
Cuba Township’s Lending Closet provides orthopedic items including walkers, canes and wheelchairs to Cuba Township residents. Items are lent at no charge. Please call the Township office at 847-381-1924 for more information and to schedule an appointment.
Handicapped Parking Placard Application
Available at the Township office. Once approved by a physician, the Township can provide a temporary parking placard for up to 90 days. If a permanent card is required, obtain a temporary from the Township, then mail the application to the Secretary of State’s office for a permanent card.
R.T.A. Rider Resources
Effective January 18, 2022 RTA launched Fare Programs Online, a web-based online customer portal that allows residents with qualifying disabilities to apply for, replace, and renew Reduced Fare and Ride Free Permits. The portal can be accessed at Fares.RTAChicago.org. This marks the first time these services are available online.
Reduced Fare Permits
RTA-issued Reduced Fare Permits allow seniors and persons with qualifying disabilities to ride at a reduced rate on fixed-route transit systems.
To qualify, applicants must provide:
- A completed online application
- A copy of a government-issued picture identification card that verifies your age (driver’s license, state of Illinois ID card, alien registration card, or passport).
- A wallet-sized color photo of yourself that is approximately 2″ square. Please do not wear a hat, scarf, or sunglasses in the photo.
Applicants receive permits in approximately 4 to 6 weeks.
Benefit Access
The income levels for eligibility range from $33,562 or less for an individual, $44,533 for a two-person household, and $55,500 for a household of three or more people. Learn more about the Benefit Access Program, eligibility, and how to file online.
The Benefit Access Program offers two benefits for persons with disabilities and seniors:
- A license plate fee discount
- Free rides on fixed-route transit systems

LIHEAP, Nicor Sharing, Energy Aide and Shield of Caring Programs
LIHEAP Requirements:
- Must meet income guidelines up to 200% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Utilities must be in the applicant’s name
- Applicant must have a photo ID
- Applicant must have proof of Social Security Card
- Applicant must provide last 30 days’ proof of income
- Applicant must provide lease agreement if renting
Nicor Sharing and Energy Aide Additional Senior and Veteran Grants
Senior Grants of up to $150 for applicants receiving LIHEAP, PIPP, or Sharing Grants
Senior applicants must provide the following information:
- Proof of income – guidelines up to 300% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Nicor bill must be in applicant’s name
- Applicant must provide photo ID
- Maximum Senior grant amount of up to $150
- Beginning October 1, approved Sharing customers will automatically enroll in the new Nicor Gas Low-Income Discount Program (LIDP) – 5% total bill discount.
Veteran applicants must provide the following information:
- Proof of income – guidelines up to 300% of Federal Poverty Level (FPL)
- Applicant must show military papers
- Nicor bill must be in applicant’s name
- Applicant must provide photo ID
- Maximum Senior grant amount of up to $150
- Beginning October 1, approved Sharing customers will automatically enroll in the new Nicor Gas Low-Income Discount Program (LIDP) – 5% total bill discount
Pace Dial-A-Ride – Cuba and Barrington Townships
The Pace program is subsidized by Cuba and Barrington Townships, as well as the Villages of Barrington, Lake Barrington, North Barrington, South Barrington and Tower Lakes.

Service Area: In and between Barrington, Barrington Twp, Cuba Twp, Deer Park south of Long Grove Rd, west of Deerpath, north of County Line, east of Ela Rd, Unincorporated Palatine Twp south of County Line, west and north of Deer Grove Forest Preserve, north of Thunderbird GC, east of Vlg of Barrington, the portion of Lake Barrington in Wauconda Twp, and the area surrounded by Rt 22, Rt 14 and Kelsey Rd. Service also provided from above to shopping areas of Lake Zurich along Rt 12 between Miller Rd and Cuba Rd, along Rt 22 between Rd 12 and Ela Rd and along Ela Rd between Rd 12 and Rt 22.
Service Hours: Monday through Friday 9:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Eligibility: Seniors and Disabled Persons
Fares: Seniors $2.00, Disabled Persons $2.00 – Exact change only
Advanced Call-In: 1 day in advance. Doctor visits may be booked a week in advance.

Ride Lake County
Lake County’s countywide paratransit service is called “Ride Lake County.” Seniors age 60+ and people with disabilities that are interested in using the new service are encouraged to register by calling the Pace Call Center at 1-800-201-6446.
Registering for Ride Lake County is required. Seniors must provide their date of birth at registration, and individuals with disabilities must provide their RTA Reduced Fare Permit number at registration. The service runs from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m. seven days a week, excluding holidays. One-way fare costs will vary between $2.00 and $6.00 depending on how far you travel. Learn more
